A randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blind clinical trial in people with seasonal pollen allergy found that a 200 mg quercetin-containing supplement produced meaningful improvements over four weeks across multiple allergy-related scores: eye itching, sneezing, nasal discharge, overall quality of life, and even sleep disturbance. A separate clinical trial found that participants taking 500 mg quercetin daily for 8 weeks reported significant reductions in nasal symptoms, eye itching, and overall allergy burden compared to placebo.

It causes chronic pelvic pain, heavy periods, and in many cases infertility. Standard treatments — hormonal therapy, NSAIDs, surgery — come with significant limitations and side effects. This is why researchers are increasingly looking at natural compounds that target the underlying inflammatory and proliferative mechanisms of the disease.

A 2019 systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials found fasting plasma glucose significantly improved in quercetin supplementation trials lasting more than 8 weeks at doses greater than 500 mg/day. Of course, the most enjoyable — and neurologically rich — way to get quercetin is from whole foods. Few sources are as concentrated as crabapples, red onions, and capers. Eating the skins of apples and crabapples maximizes quercetin intake alongside naturally occurring pectin and fiber that further support absorption and gut health.

For concentrated supplemental intake, a lecithin-based or phytosome quercetin formulation taken with a fat-containing meal will deliver substantially more bioavailable quercetin than a plain capsule.
