Let’s face it; we all want to have more energy, and strength, and feel younger, but aging happens no matter how hard we try.

No one lives forever or stays young forever.

However, new scientific discoveries into aging have helped uncover ways that may help with both youthful energy and keeping muscle strength resilient.

A substance called Urolithin A is a postbiotic that helps repair damaged and aging cells by supporting mitochondrial health.

That’s why I tried this naturally derived supplement from Timeline Nutrition called Mitopure Cellular Nutrition which contains natural Urolithin A.

Let’s take a look at Mitopure reviews, including my own, and at the science backing it up.

Mitopure Cellular Nutrition: What is It?

Mitopure is the trademarked Urolithin A supplement made by Timeline Nutrition. It’s the only trademarked Urolithin A supplement available on the market today.

Urolithin A is a natural compound that is made from bacteria in the gut by processing ellagitannins from fruits, especially pomegranates. For this reason, it is known as a postbiotic because it is produced from gut bacteria.

But, there’s a catch: most people don’t have the right bacteria to convert these polyphenols into urolithin A in the body.

In other words, the only way to know if you are getting urolithin A into your body is by taking it as a supplement.

How Does Mitopure Work?

Mitopure is a clinically tested, pure form of Urolithin A supplement. It helps to address multiple signs of aging. It induces mitophagy, which is the cellular clean-up of our damaged and dysfunctional cell parts that make energy called the mitochondria. This is basically autophagy for the mitochondria.

By cleaning up the cells, Mitopure helps clean out these damaged mitochondria making room for newer, more efficient mitochondria.

Mitopure represents a significant leap forward in longevity science, offering a targeted approach to support mitochondrial health and, by extension, muscle vitality.

Its ability to directly influence cellular mechanisms central to aging positions Mitopure as a promising ally in the quest for healthy aging and sustained physical wellness.

Additionally, Mitopure has been shown to improve muscle strength and endurance in healthy yet sedentary adults. A reduction in inflammatory markers, including C-reactive protein, was also observed in these trials.

By the way, muscle decline is a common sign of aging, so the fact that Mitopure can help reverse this is pretty compelling.

Here are a couple of graphs to demonstrate the effects of Mitopure on muscle strength as published in Cell Reports Medicine.

Note that hangrip strength and hamstring average peak torque were compared between placebo, 500 mg of Mitopure, and 1000 mg of Mitopure.

As you can see, Mitopure works to improve muscle function and strength above and beyond placebo after treatment. It also improves peak VO2, a marker of aerobic health.

Other Benefits of Mitopure

Beyond its benefits shown in clinical trial results, Mitopure has other important benefits according to early research.

Furthermore, the topical application of Mitopure® on the skin has been clinically proven to energize the skin cells and help combat both intrinsic (internal) and extrinsic (external) aging factors.

Urolithin A may help:

More research is needed to confirm these findings in people.

Mitopure Review-Cost

I was intrigued by the ability of Mitopure to increase blood plasma levels of Urolithin A by 6 times as much as pomegranate juice.

To translate that into cost, the average glass of pomegranate juice today costs $2-3 per cup. To get the equivalent amount of Urolithin A in juice as it would take Mitopure, you would have to spend $12-$18 per day.

It’s a lot more cost-effective to take Mitopure than it is to drink pomegranate juice in other words.

By the way, Mitopure costs about $3.33-$4 per serving depending on whether you subscribe. You can also get a discount of 10% if you use the special promotional code THEHEALTHYRD.

While this may seem expensive, consider the price of a cup of coffee these days.

Mitopure Review-My Experience

Image of Heidi Moretti, MS, RD holding a bottle of Mitopure Cellular Nutrition for the Mitopure Review post by The Healthy RD

To be honest, I didn’t notice anything when taking Mitopure the first week.  By the way, I am taking 500 mg per day of Timeline Cellular Nutrition Mitopure.

After about 2 weeks, I slacked off on taking it and this is when I DID notice a change. Specifically, I noticed that my muscles were more fatigued after exercise because I stopped taking the Mitopure.

So, I resumed taking Mitopure and within about a week, I noticed that I felt more alert again and that my exercise tolerance went up. This washout period made me realize that I do indeed feel better when taking Mitopure.

At that point, I became very intrigued by Mitopure and decided to write this post. I decided to also try the topical Urolithin A that Timeline offers.

On day 1, this product was noticeably exfoliating. My skin is very sensitive and I found this product to be great with no skin irritation at all.

How to Take Mitopure

You can take Mitopure Softgels or mix them into food with Mitopure Powder. The powder form tastes tangy like berries, so it’s very pleasant.

Another option is Mitopure + Protein which contains 20 grams of protein from whey protein concentrate and milk protein concentrate.

When ordering Mitopure, you can also try samples which is nice if you aren’t sure if you are ready to add it to your daily regimen.

I feel like the easiest way to take it is in the Softgel form because I don’t always want to eat a meal if I’m doing an intermittent fast.

You can get 10% off any of your options by using the special code THEHEALTHYRD

I feel like I have gotten younger

I simply feel like I have more energy to do everything. This is like a caffeine jolt without any of the side effects. I am hoping these results continue and build on what is currently happening? I’m willing to continue for a couple of months to find out.

Feeling unstoppable thanks to Mitopure

I forgot what it felt like to feel energized. I was so overrun with fatigue for many years that I just got used to it but once I started taking Mitopure, I began to feel more alert, have stronger performance both mentally and physically, and my mood elevated as well. In the gym, I was instantly able to lift more weights and feel that I was able to perform sprints more easily. I recover more quickly from the hard training that I do and overall, I feel fantastic!

Of all the supplements…

Of all the supplements I’ve tried for mitochondria, this is the only one that I have felt a definite difference. As a 60+ adult, the increased leg strength has been life-changing. This past week I was able to carry groceries in both hands climbing 14 stairs. Before starting MitoPure I had to use both arms to balance and help pull me up those stairs.

Obsessed with this supplement..

Love this supplement. I take 2 capsules of Mitopure every morning and I’m obsessed. I’ve increased my load at my CrossFit classes and my stamina is unbelievable. Thank you TimeLine Nutrition for making such amazing products.

I finished 1st place…

I finished 1st place in my division in the 2023 Rose Bowl 5K and the LA Big 5 races. While my time may not impress younger runners, I’m faster than all other women over 65.

Worth the Cost

So far I’m loving this product! The biggest complaint I saw when reading reviews myself was that the cost was too high, but I think having more energy and being able to live life to its full potential is well worth the cost.

Softgel Capsules

I’ve heard a lot of great things about this brand/their products and after receiving my order I told my dad about them and he got really excited & wanted to try them as well. He has a very busy and active lifestyle but doesn’t really care for coffee/energy drinks so I ended up gifting them to him and they’ve noticeably given him a lot more energy in the mornings. I’m really excited to place another order and get started on my own well journey.

Negative Mitopure Reviews

Not all reviews of Mitopure are glowing.

While Mitopure consistently gets over 4 star reviews on average, here are a couple of examples of neutral or negative reviews.

 Have Taken Almost a Year

Reviewed in the United States on June 10, 2023

UPDATE: Having used for nearly a year, I can’t say that I’ve found any changes at all. Maybe I was not one in the category of those who don’t make any. Much is faith with this, and its too expensive.

Considering that the most likely reason anyone tries this has to do with a study they read or heard about (trying it on faith or experimentally), and the likely high cost being the overly fancy, heavy glass jar–it’s too costly to fool with.

 Very Expensive

Reviewed in Australia on October 27, 2023

Not sure what the marketing people were thinking here, when you pay that price for 28 tablets and you open the box and see the container empty, didn’t really set me off on a good experience. The tablets were there but in i tiny packet to the side. A bit bizarre to be honest.

As for the tablets, haven’t really noticed any difference. I wont be buying again.

I bought for long covid. Do not recommend

Reviewed in the United States on November 9, 2023

I initially purchased this product because i am stuck with long covid 3 years after getting covid. I keep trying to find relief and went down the rabbit hole trying one supplement after another. The bottom line is we, long haul covid patients have chronic body inflammation, autoimmune and cell inflammation so i bought this product hoping it will regenerate my cells. The first 3 days i felt amazing. A super rush of energy and clear mind, the 4th day and on i fell ill, i noticed a huge amount of inflammation in my body, my neck pain and shoulder pain was back, my gastrointestinal problems were back. So i discontinued the product. Based on the many books o have read, i blame the inflammation reaction to the sunflower lecithin oil they added to this product unnecessarily. Hopefully, they make a version without that ingredient in it. I did reach out to customer service and their response was very rude. Not ever going to purchase this again.

Other Ways to Boost Longevity

It would be a mistake to rely on a single supplement to be healthy and to help with anti-aging.

As such, experts recommend focusing on a healthy lifestyle as the best way to bolster your health span.

  • Having a balanced diet
  • Try intermittent fasting
  • Do regular exercise
  • Get sufficient sleep
  • Eat omega-3 fatty acids from foods like sardines and cod liver oil
  • Make sure to get enough B vitamins like niacin to boost NAD levels
  • Consider taking coenzyme Q10
  • Also, avoid excess alcohol and don’t smoke

When considering supplements for addressing aging concerns, seek those with clear benefits supported by clinical trials, such as Mitopure that play important roles in healthy aging.

While the pursuit of a true fountain of youth continues, embracing a holistic approach to aging can lead to a fuller and more vibrant life. Remember, aging is a journey to be embraced, and with knowledge and a healthy lifestyle, we can navigate it with grace and vitality.

Is Urolithin A Safe?

Yes. Clinical trials show that Urolithin A is safe and non-toxic. There are no known Mitopure side effects.

Mitopure’s Urolithin A is generally recognized as safe by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

However, independent testing of products shows that some products available on the market today do not contain any Urolithin A  at all. That is why I suggest getting Mitopure instead of other Urolithin A products on Amazon because it is third-party tested and validated.

Details About Mitopure’s Impact on Muscle Health

Recent scientific clinical studies have shed light on the benefits of Mitopure in enhancing muscle health, particularly in middle-aged and older adults.

I will review the two hallmark studies related to muscle health and Mitopure.

Study 1: The Energize Trial

A landmark trial published in JAMA Open Network in 2022 was a rigorous study to see if the effects of 1000 mg of Urolithin A (Mitopure) in sedentary adults age 65 and older would help improve age-related muscle health.

This randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial focused on muscle fatigue, endurance, and mitochondrial health biomarkers over four months.

Strikingly, this research found that Urolithin A (Mitopure) led to a 17% improvement in muscle endurance.  Muscle endurance was measured by the number of contractions until failure in hand and leg muscles. Additionally, improvements in a six-minute walk test, which is a test of endurance, were observed with the group taking Mitopure.

Notably, these improvements occurred without any change to diet or exercise, underscoring Mitopure’s role in enhancing muscle health.

Study 2: The Atlas Trial

The Atlas Trial, focusing on healthy, yet overweight, middle-aged adults, also studied the effects of Urolithin A on muscle strength and performance. The research included 88 middle-aged participants to receive either 500 mg or 1000 mg of Urolithin A, or a placebo.

Key results of the trial included a 12% improvement in muscle strength, in the Mitopure group compared to the placebo group. Additionally, exercise performance, assessed through Vo2 max and a six-minute walking test, showed meaningful improvements.

Similar to the Energize Trial, no changes to diet or exercise were part of the study protocol. Both doses of 500 mg and 1000 mg worked just as well.

Other Important Mitopure Research

Recent research shows that topical application of Mitopure energizes skin cells to help with factors associated with skin aging.

Future studies are expected to further broaden the scope of Mitopure’s applications.

For example, research is currently being conducted on the effects of Mitopure in Olympic-trained endurance runners and will likely shed light on how Urolithin A can help with athletic performance.

Preclinical data has demonstrated potential benefits for Urolithin A in the age-related decline of joint health, immune health, and cognition. These trials will no doubt pave the way for human trials, which will shape the way that targeted nutrition supplementation can be used to promote healthy aging.

Mitopure Summary

Based on the current research and overall positive reviews, Mitopure is a supplement that works and is worth trying. This is especially true if you are looking to improve your exercise performance.

While the other benefits of Mitopure are still emerging, it appears clear that this postbiotic will help other aspects of your general health too. Whether it be mental clarity or improving immune and nerve health, your body stands to gain from this mitochondrial booster supplement.
