Here is a balancing cacao drink recipe that is made with cacao elixir. I love to sip on a cup of this drinking chocolate first thing on a Saturday morning or a weekday when I have a few extra minutes. Balancing and energizing at the same time, this recipe contains organic raw cacao and edible flowers as well as adaptogens. I hope you enjoy it!
The only equipment you need is a small saucepan, measuring spoons, and a whisk. As an option, you can also use a milk frother to make this extra decadent (yet healthy!).

What is Cacao Elixir?
Cacao elixir is a drink with medicinal properties. As many people realize, chocolate has health benefits because it is rich in antioxidants. This cacao elixir recipe goes above and beyond healthy with medicinal mushrooms, maca, and ashwagandha to help balance out your energy.
The ingredients of this cacao drink recipe are simple and include coconut milk, a high-quality cacao elixir made with raw cacao powder, maca powder, and the sweetener of your choice. Heat, whisk, and serve!
If you want to have a chilled cacao drink instead, simply whisk chilled coconut milk, cow’s milk, or almond milk along with the sweetener and the elixir.
You can use honey, real maple syrup or Smart Cream made with coconut, monk fruit, and lion’s mane mushroom as an all-natural sweetener without carbs.
Cacao Drink Recipe Options
Some of the ingredients I include here are optional but give this drink a little extra special.
I love adding a touch of floral beauty to mine: this time I added an edible flower: a pansy from my garden. A few lavender buds added to it also make it extra relaxing.
Feel free to mix in a little ground cinnamon powder too, if you wish.
This super healthy drink is free of processed sugar and is also keto if you leave out added honey or maple syrup.
For milk bases, canned coconut milk is my favorite for this drink, but you can also substitute almond milk or coconut milk from a shelf-stable brick pack like this one. To make this cacao drink keto style, you can add extra coconut oil too.
You can top this delightful drink with whipped cream if you wish for an extra decadent treat.
I hope you like adding this to your drink recipe rotation too! For more handmade chocolate recipes, you can visit this post.

About the Cacao Drink Recipe
When a raw cacao bean, or cocoa bean, is cold-pressed, it becomes raw cacao.
The raw cacao form of cocoa powder retains the most nutrients, enzymes, and antioxidants, so it is the healthiest form of chocolate. It often contains cacao butter too.
Most cacao powder on the market is from roasted cocoa beans: it is worth your time to find raw cacao instead!
My favorite kind of cacao powder is Cacao Elixir from Medicinal foods. Here is why:
- A chocolate mix that contains a synergistic blend of Raw Cacao and adaptogens.
- This all-organic recipe is made with stone-ground Arriba Criollo Cacao, which is sustainably sourced.
- Contains energizing and balancing compounds like Maca, Mucuna, Spirulina, Chlorella, Ashwagandha, Hemp Protein, Reishi Mushroom Powder, and Cordyceps Mushroom Powder
- You will notice its superfood benefits by how you feel.

The Cacao Ceremony
Drinking chocolate, or cacao drink recipes, is often enjoyed in a cacao ceremony traditionally. A cacao ceremony is a gathering of people in a group ceremony, often with a sacred circle, music, and traditional drinking of 100% ceremonial cacao.
Ceremonial grade cacao is always derived from organic cacao beans and either raw or roasted at very low temperatures.
While it is nice to have ceremonial cacao in a group, it is also healing when you take the time to connect with your own heart and soul by making a ritual of having a cacao drink.
If you take the time to prepare foods with care, the experience is always much more rewarding than hurrying along with your day.
Organic Cacao Bars and Raw Chocolate Cacao Nuts
Medicinal Foods also has chocolate bars made with care. Their chocolate recipes always include the finest organic cacao bars. You can find them here:
